Futzing with Hell

So, I've started working on my book The Hell of It (working title) as a straight prose novel, having basically abandoned the notion of it being a graphic novel. With Pariah due to hit the shelves (and internet outlets) on August 3rd, 2010 (so order yours now, in either spiffy trade paperback or spiffier hardcover!), I'm just feeling more and more that prose is the way to go. I enjoy writing novels enormously and I think I'm good at it. That said, I am doing some more prep art for The Hell of It, just to get me in that headspace; to help picture it. Here's a couple of quickies I just did. I'll post more later.

Looking slick as per usual. Can't wait to read it. Looking forward to reading Pariah as well.

Thanks, Brian. Even though I'm doing this as a novel instead of as a comic, I will be doing some sketches just to immerse my head in this world. My version of Hell is something between Dante's (which is definitely the model) and urban sprawl a la my hometown, NYC. I envision each Circle with a distinct flavor and ambiance.

I want to own a bodega in your hell.

Sure, why not?

Did your drawing get really wild after you abandoned the graphic novel idea?
Either way, I love it. Just as stand alone drawings, those are really great.

Uland: I'm not sure how to answer that. Doing these sketches really quickly and freely is the approach I'd like to have taken if this had been done as a comic. Who knows? But maybe these could be in the novel. I don't want to get ahead of myself. Let's get it sold, first.
