Here’s a drawing I did recently of my friend, the writer David Rakoff. His books are great (as are his articles, should you happen across his byline in some tony periodical). This is the first of a series of drawings I’m planning to do of friends of mine who happen to be authors. Attention Jonathan Ames, are you ready for your close-up?

Stunning. You should do more portraits. Or maybe you should just show more the ones you do.
Did you use photo ref, did he sit for it, or is it mostly from memory?
Thanks. Mr. Purvis, I presume?
I couldn't do that from memory. It's from a photo I took. If I go the photo reference route I like to at least shoot my own.
And I'll be posting more straight portraiture, etc., soon.
Looks great, Bob.
really fantastic stuff, Mr. Fingerman. your cartooning always has a great deal of humanity to it, and the real details you've mixed with the subtle cartooning you've brought to this portrait really make it sing.
Mr. Moore. How nice of you to say. I really appreciate that.
hey, i did david rakoff too!
this is my drawing of him & amy sedaris @ symphony space last year.

It's almost work becoming a famous writer to get one of these Fingerman portraits...
